John 5:22-24
For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting
life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
These powerful verses lay forth that the Father judges no one. The reason is clear: to commit all judgment to the Son? Why? Again, clearly, so that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. What does it mean to honor the Son as you honor the Father?
Here’s the Greek word for honor:
The KJV New Testament Greek Lexicon
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
To honor the Son, as the Father, you must revere the Son, you must venerate the Son. In other words you must fix the Son’s value to that of the Father’s. To honor the Son you must simply believe in Him as God. If you do not believe Jesus is God, you do not believe the Father is God. If you hear the word of Jesus and believe in the Father, you also believe in the Son and have everlasting life. You will not come into the Son’s judgment but have passed from death into life.
Taking this interpretation – let’s look at John 3:
John 3:17-18
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
The Son was net sent to condemn but to save. If you believe in the Son you are not condemned. Why? Because you have believed in the only begotten Son of God – you have believed that Jesus Christ is God. Through this belief you have honored the Son and thereby honored the Father – you have been saved by grace through faith in the only begotten Son of God.
